What are neuromodulators and how do they work?
Neuromodulators are natural purified proteins derived from botulinum bacteria. When injected into muscles that cause wrinkles neuromodulators will relax those muscles for about 3 to 4 months. This results in a smoother more relaxed appearance. Typically these prescription neurotoxins are used to treat frown lines, forehead lines and crow’s feet but many other areas can also be treated including smoker’s lines, gummy smile, heavy brows and other areas.
How are neuromodulator treatments done?
Using very, very small needles, a small amount of neuromodulator is injected directly into the muscles that are responsible for producing wrinkles. The dosage used varies depending on which muscle is being treated and the strength of that muscle. Men typically require higher doses than women. At the appropriate dose these medications effectively relax these muscles, thereby causing lines to disappear or diminish dramatically.
