Thread lift treatment is a type of in-office minor surgical procedure that employs special absorbable sutures to lift sagging skin and encourage collagen and fibrin production in the treatment area. Thread lifts have been in use for approximately 20 years and over that time the materials and methods have been continually refined and improved.
Silhouette InstaLift™ threads (sutures) are Health Canada approved and made from a biocompatible, completely absorbable synthetic polymer called PLLA (poly-L-lactic acid). InstaLift™ threads have absorbable PLLA micro-cones along their length. InstaLift™ sutures are threaded under the skin and then lifted into place; the cones grip the skin thereby securing the lifted skin into a higher position. InstaLift™ threads provide instant improvement of sagging cheeks and nasolabial folds. As the threads and cones dissolve over time they also stimulate collagen and fibrin production in the skin.
InstaLift™ threads provide lift without adding volume to the face. Threads are not a substitute for a surgical mid-facelift. Instead, threads offer an opportunity to provide subtle but noticeable improvement in facial sagging without the cost or downtime of surgery. Typically, InstaLift™ threads will lift the skin about 1cm.
The ideal candidate for a thread lift is someone between the ages of 35 and 65 who is in good health, has reasonably thick skin and typical facial volume.
The InstaLift™ threads procedure is performed under sterile technique. The skin in the area is frozen before the procedure. Downtime can be a few days and some bruising can be expected.
