Dermamelan®  is a prescription level skin depigmentation treatment system. The treatment consists of a mask applied in-clinic which is worn home plus an at home follow-up and maintenance program. This is an intense peel and may not be best for everyone, but there are few products in the market that are as effective at treating melasma. A consult with our medical aestheticians is an important first step.

Dermamelan®  both lifts existing pigment and suppresses melanin production. The mask facilitates a process to lift melanin deposits deep in the skin (brown spots, melasma). This is achieved through an intense exfoliative peeling process combined with the inhibition of tyrosinase, an enzyme which is responsible for production of melanin pigment in the skin.  

Tyrosinase activity is stimulated by the sun therefore careful use of sunblock and sun avoidance where possible is critical to maintaining results. Regular use of tyrosinase suppressing agents (Dermamelan®  maintenance cream) is required in the 4 months after the mask.   

Because treatment with Dermamelan®  does not involve heat, it is ideal for treating stubborn hyperpigmentation such as melasma.  in individuals who are not candidates for laser.

After completing your Dermamelan®  post-care for 4 months it is highly recommended to switch to the Melan Tran3X duo for preventive maintenance.  This concentrate and gel/cream combo contains tranexamic acid, a potent agent for preventing hyperpigmentation without the use of hydroquinone.  Sunblock is also recommended for daily use in all seasons when you are prone to hyperpigmentation.  Any sunblock is sufficient as long as it has full UVA/UVB protection.  In the summer a mineral sunblock containing titanium and or zinc is highly recommended.
