Treatment Options

Before we can book your consultation for treatment of veins, please see the pictures below and indicate which type of veins you think you have on the booking form. Depending on your condition, you may need laser, sclerotherapy, laser + sclerotherapy, or referral for evaluation of venous insufficiency. Your response will help us insure that we book you with the appropriate clinicians.

What type of vein treatment do I need?

Classic spider veins

These tiny vessels are typically found on the legs or the face. They are red to purple in colour and whispy in appearance. There are no darker vessels in behind them. These types of veins are typically treated with laser and will usually a require short series of treatments to clear. This can be treated at ArtMed.

Spider veins with reticular feeders

This very common type of vein pattern is typically seen on the legs. There are superficial red to purple spider veins beneath which can be seen green or blue feeder veins called reticulars. In this situation a patient typically requires a few treatments of sclerotherapy for the reticulars followed by laser vein treatment for the spiders. If you treat spider veins without treating reticulars the spider veins tend to recur. This can be treated at ArtMed.

Varicose veins

Varicose veins are typically blue in colour and they bulge from the skin surface. A varicose vein is due to an incompetent vein higher up in the leg. This type of vein may be treated with endovenous laser ablation (performed by a vascular surgeon) or ultrasound guided foam sclerotherapy. If you have these types of veins ask your family physician to order vein studies through KW Vein Clinic. If there is a diagnosis of venous insufficiency a referral to Dr Jahromi (vascular surgeon) is indicated. This type of vein is not treated at ArtMed.

Booking a consultation for Sclerotherapy

At ArtMed, we offer sclerotherapy (treatment of legs veins with an injectable medication).

However, please note that we only provide treatment for veins of medium and small size (reticular and spider veins). Large, bulging varicose veins will need to be evaluated by a vascular surgeon. Please review the form below and let us know what type of veins you have.

We also offer medical level compression wear and prescriptions for insurance purposes.

If you are new to sclerotherapy, or new to sclerotherapy at ArtMed, or it has been many years since you were lasted treated with sclerotherapy at ArtMed you will be required to book a consultation visit before any treatment can be done. You will also need to have appropriate style and level of compression wear that is less than 2 years old before you can initiate treatments. We are more than happy to measure you and arrange ordering of appropriate compression wear at your consultation if required.

This pre-screening form helps us determine if you are potentially a good candidate for sclerotherapy at ArtMed.
