HALO® Laser Treatment

Prevent & Minimize Wrinkles | Improve Skin Texture & Tone | Reduce Brown Spots | Shrink Pores

What does the HALO® treatment do?

HALO®, the world’s first Hybrid Fractional Laser (HFL), is revolutionizing resurfacing; it restores the glow that sun, time and stress have depleted from your skin. Halo® delivers non-ablative and ablative wavelengths to the same microscopic treatment zone, giving patients results they love without the discomfort or downtime they expect. In the past we could treat with single wavelength non-ablative lasers, or single wavelength ablative lasers.  By combining both modalities in one treatment you not only get a better result you will heal faster with less downtime.

Halo® provides a comprehensive anti-aging effect in a single treatment.  After Halo® you just look younger and it’s hard to identify why.  This is due to the multiple improvements afforded by Halo which leads to an overall improvement in your skin’s condition and appearance.  People will ask, ‘have you been on a vacation? You look great!’

What does HALO® treat?

HALO® LASER FAQ’s

  • Halo® is the world’s first dual wavelength hybrid fractional laser. Lasers are used in aesthetics to treat the skin surface and typically a laser has one wavelength of light which has a specific target and therefore specific treatment possibilities. Lasers can be non-ablative (where they heat tissue to cause an injury and stimulate remodelling) or ablative where they vaporize tissue to force the body to replace the lost tissue with fresh new tissue.

  • In the case of Halo®, two different wavelengths are used, one of which is ablative (vaporizing) and one which is non-ablative (tissue heating). This hybrid model offers the best of all worlds when treating the skin. Halo® is also infinitely tuneable which means the amount of skin that is treated (surface area) and the depth of treatment can be adjusted. This allows an experienced medical laser technician to specifically tailor your treatment to address your unique issues and to obtain optimal results. Combining the wavelengths also allows for quicker healing.

Halo® is a flagship treatment from Sciton. Sciton lasers are manufactured in California and are considered to be ‘cadillac’ lasers and are among the highest quality lasers in the world.

  • Halo® uses a proprietary scanning device to deliver both wavelengths of light. This device rolls over the skin while a cooling device simultaneously cools the skin to optimize comfort. The treatment feels like warm static electricity on the skin and heat builds throughout the treatment. Most individuals do not find it painful but they do find it is hot. The heat builds during the treatment and then dissipates in the hour after treatment.

There is a video of a Halo treatment in progress on our website opening video if you’re curious.

  • It depends on the area to be treated. Halo® can be used on the face, neck, chest and hands. One area is treated at a time. Typically, a face treatment takes about ½ hour to complete. However, you will need to have topical numbing cream applied for about 45 minutes prior to your treatment so plan for 1 ½ hours in clinic for a full-face treatment.

  • Yes, you can treat more than one area, but note that you can only numb one major area at a time. So, if you were to plan to treat your face, neck and chest, you would numb the face first, remove numbing and then apply numbing cream to neck and chest while face is being treated.

  • Yes, the downtime is particularly related to swelling. It is normal to have swelling after Halo® treatment especially in the first 3 days. After that the skin appears bronze. This bronze mask-like appearance begins to flake off starting around day 3-4 and flakes off from the centre of the face/neck/chest and proceeds outward from there. Typically the flaking is complete around Day 7. Skin can feel tight or a bit itchy during the flaking process. If you have a particular deep or dense Halo® treatment (for example to treat ‘smoker’s lines’) the recovery may take up to 2 weeks. Your medical laser technician will provide an estimated recovery time based on your specific treatment protocol.

Younger people will generally heal faster. Healing time can be reduced with the application of PRP post treatment (platelet rich plasma) or the use of Exosomes growth factors.

  • Halo® is an excellent over-all anti-aging laser treatment. Halo® treats complexion (colour/evenness), texture (fine lines and wrinkles) and pores. Halo® stimulates collagen/elastin/fibrin production to improve skin thickness and elasticity. Individuals who have had Halo® treatment look younger and more refreshed generally and it is difficult to point out exactly why. It provides exceptionally natural results.

  • The ideal time to do Halo® is in the fall, winter or spring when you don’t have a tan. You should avoid doing a Halo® if you plan to have a lot of sun exposure in the month after you’ve had a Halo®.

  • Individuals must stop using retinols or any acids/exfoliants or active ingredient skin care products for a week before treatment. Halo® treatment includes a bottle of Alastin Skin Nectar which should be used in the two weeks before treatment and the two weeks after to optimize results and speed healing.

  • Typically, Halo® treatment is a single treatment. Results are permanent but individuals will continue to naturally age as per usual. If you are seeking to maintain results then it is recommended to do Halo® once a year if over 50 yrs old and every 1-2 years if under 50 yrs old. Sometimes individuals will alternate treatment modalities such as doing BBL/Clear&Brilliant or microneedling plus PRP in between Halo® treatments to extend results. It depends on the nature of your skin care issues. It’s best to consult with your treating medical laser aesthetician to determine what is optimal for you.
