Ask Dr. Peirson – When should you consider starting anti-aging treatments?

This is a question we are asked quite frequently, and naturally, there are many factors to consider.

We will often treat clients in their 20s with medical conditions (acne, rosacea) in the effort to achieve remission. This is to prevent further damage to the skin; then we focus on correcting scars and hyperpigmentation.

In your 30s preventing early signs of aging is our primary objective. Many non-invasive laser technologies will forestall aging and capture a younger client’s capacity for collagen production. These laser advancements early on will help maintain youthfulness, and slow down the signs of growing older. The use of pharmaceutically active preparations (deep delivery Vitamin C serums and retinols) is also critical to preventing age related changes in the skin.

In your 40s clients are often looking for solutions to existing problems; there are simple corrections to address issues such as wrinkles (BOTOX®), volume loss (Juvederm® fillers), sun damage and age spots.

With clients who are 55+ we look at more significant corrections when wrinkles are deeply set (like skin resurfacing), or more substantial volume restoration. The aim is to get to a point where clients are happy with their skin, can easily maintain the results, age with grace and look as young as they feel!
